Career and Technical Education Community Collaborative Featuring the Development of an English Language Institute
February 2009 - June 2010

The Chancellor's Office of the California Community Colleges has awarded the San Mateo County Community College District a grant to create an English Language Institute (ELI) at Skyline College. The ELI will feature a one stop welcome center for English language learners (ELLs) with comprehensive assessment of academic, social, financial and career development needs. The grant will support faculty development in contextualized learning. Additionally, the project will develop printed and electronic information in multiple languages, provide case management for ELLs and create a video introduction to college programs and services in multiple languages. The project also supports services to business and industry that identify workforce needs related to English language proficiency. The 18 month project began in February, 2009.
