Extended Opportunity Programs & Services

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is designed to improve access, retention and completion of educational goals for students who are low income and educationally disadvantaged. EOPS students have the potential to succeed in college but have not been able to realize their potential because of economic and/or educational barriers.

EOPS services (subject to modification depending on funding):

  • Counseling
  • Bilingual counseling in Spanish
  • One-on-one tutorial assistance (The Learning Center)
  • Transfer assistance (Transfer Center)
  • Parking permit or bus pass
  • UC and CSU application fee waiver
  • Book Services Program ($450 maximum for required textbooks based on need per semester)
  • Vocational grants for up to $450 (COSMETOLOGY, AUTOMOTIVE, TCOM)
  • Priority Registration
  • Calculator Loan Program
  • School supplies

Qualifications:
EOPS applicants must be certified as both economically and educationally disadvantaged.

Economic eligibility is determined by the Financial Aid office by completing the Board of Governors Grant (BOGG) or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. EOPS serves students that are awarded either a BOGG A or B. These guidelines are not intended to exclude disadvantaged students but to identify and give priority to the most financially needy applicants. EOPS applicants must meet the low income guidelines listed below.

1  $12,360.00 or less
2  $16,590.00 or less
3  $20,820.00 or less
4  $25,050.00 or less

Add $4,320.00 for each additional dependent.

Educational eligibility includes but is not limited to students who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Not qualified for the minimal level of Math/English based on placement test scores
  • No high school diploma or GED
  • High school GPA below 2.50
  • Enrolled in high school/college remedial/basic skills/ESL courses
  • First generation college student
  • Parents never attended college
  • Member of an underrepresented group


EOPS eligibility is determined if a student meets all of the following criteria:

  • BOGG A or B eligible
  • Educationally disadvantaged
  • California resident
  • Full-time student (12.0 units or more)
  • Have earned less than 70 Associate degree applicable units

Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE)program provides additional services and support to students by way of special programs specially tailored to the needs of CARE students. For more information, contact Pablo Gonzalez, CARE Coordinator, at (650) 738-4480.

CARE eligibility:

  • EOPS eligible
  • Single heads of household and 18 years of age or older
  • Receiving AFDC/TANF or CalWORKS
  • Has a child under the age of 14
