Databases for Magazine, Journal & Newspaper Articles:

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center on campus or off-campus w/ library card
Database of viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles on social issues.

  • Click on the list of many social issues to choose from or search for a specific topic not on the list.
  • After clicking on a social issue or doing a search, you will see links to "Viewpoint essays" on that issue.
    Theses are pro & con articles that take a point of view on an issue.
    For basic factual information on an issue—click on Reference and Statistics tabs.
    Also try: Magazines, News and Primary documents -- by clicking on the appropriate tabs at the top of the page.



Gale PowerSearch databases - on campus or off-campus w/ library card
articles from academic journals, popular magazines and newspapers; excellent set of general periodical databases. 

o        To narrow searches, combine concepts with AND.

o        PLEASE NOTE: When search results are first displayed, only academic journal articles are shown, if available for your search.
Click on the “Magazines” tab to display magazine articles "Newstab to display all news articles; click on the "Referencetab to display reference articles.

 


Books:

The PLS Online Catalog is the online catalog to find books in Skyline Library and in all libraries in the Peninsula Library System.

  • Type in search word(s) for your topic in the first search box and click the Submit button.
  • The search results will show books and other materials in all libraries in the PLS system.
  • To Limit your results to books at Skyline College Library, scroll down to Limit to: Location: pull-down menu below the search boxes, scroll down in the Location: pull-down menu, select Skyline College & then click the Submit button.
