Get Certified as a Youth Mental Health First Aider

Free training will prepare participants to help young people in emotional distress.

San Mateo County Behavioral Health & Recovery Services will host a 2-part Youth Mental Health First Aid Training at Skyline College on Friday March 6 AND Friday, March 13 from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  This free training will prepare you to help a young person in emotional distress who may be experiencing a mental illness or crisis.

As many as one in five young people in the United States suffer from a mental health illness or challenge. Learn how YOU can help young people in crisis by becoming certified as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Participants will learn about the potential risk factors for youth (ages 12-24) to develop a mental illness or mental challenge. They will learn to recognize signs and symptoms of common mental illnesses among young people and how to implement a 5-Step Action Plan to help a young person cope with their emotional distress.

Lunch and materials will be provided at this 2-part course.
