About me:

I grew up in Indonesia where I completed my high school. I came to the United States and chose Skyline College to pursue my higher education before transferring to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Afterwards, I intend to get a CPA license to work in the accounting industry or continue for master’s degree to become a college professor.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known…:

I wish I had known about the resources Skyline offers, and where to ask for help. I also wish that I spent more time to discover the campus after classes and be more engaged around campus.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

Besides academics, I love to spend time learning contemporary dance, editing movie projects or creating flyers. During holidays, I travel to other countries for sightseeing and to taste their cuisine.

My name is Joseph Jaballa and I’m a recent graduate from Skyline College with an associate degree in Business Administration. Currently, I’m pursuing my Bachelor's Degree at San Francisco State University. At Skyline College, I was a three time scholarship award winner and served as a student ambassador for the Guardian Scholars Program & Counseling Division Department.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known about all the great resources on campus that provided the tools necessary for student success.

The Learning Center and all the different resources that are available because these resources are valuable to the community, and have the potential to help all students acclimate to college life.

I sew plushies, read, and play video games. When I’m with my friends, I enjoy hiking and eating at cafes.

Major: Sociology

About me:

I am a Mexican American, first generation student with the goal of transferring into a University of California within the next two years. My education took place in two very different cultural environments; Mexico and the U.S. I am nineteen years old and just recently graduated from Jefferson High School in Daly City. I love to work helping others achieve their goals and discover their hidden potential.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known…:

The many resources available to students to help students succeed. It took me some time to discover them, but Skyline College is a well prepared community college that has resources to fulfill all kinds of student needs. I wish I had been aware of the different kinds of help open to almost all students; covering necessities all the way from school supplies to best preparing to transfer.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

What I enjoy outside of academics: What I love to do most is read and write; I read across genres but like to focus my writing on fictional prose writing, specifically science fiction and action (I cannot write a poem to save my life). I also really enjoy swimming, both competitive and recreational swimming.

I dreamed of studying broad when I was a little girl, so I tried my best to convince my family to let me follow my dream. Since I came to the U.S. and studied at Skyline College, I’ve never stopped trying my best every single day to develop my skills and knowledge. I believe that if I keep moving forward and don’t give up, my hard work will be paid off.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known about all the available resources and services on campus, so that I don’t need to struggle to fit in the college life. I wish I had known more people, made more friends to not feel being left out of the community.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

I enjoy planning and attending the activities in Phi Theta Kappa, and then I also enjoy spending time with my friends when I’m free. Sometimes I will enjoy being alone to just listen to music or read some books to refresh my mind.

About me:

I was born and raised in Daly City. After high school, I attended San Jose State University majoring in computer engineering. I later transferred to Skyline hoping to stay close to family. Taking courses at Skyline, I realized computer engineering was not what I really wanted to do, so I took basic courses and eventually landed on an introductory course to accounting, which allowed me to know what I really enjoy.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known…:

All the useful resources that are available to students. Knowing the available resources will make students experience at Skyline College a great and successful one.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and walking my dogs at the park.

About me:

I immigrated to the United States from China with my family. Like most of the immigrants, I tried to chase "the American dream." I intend to transfer to UC Berkeley and Skyline College helped me to get closer to achieving my goal. I am able to acquire more knowledge, boost my capabilities in many different fieldsand enhance my competitive edge in the employment market. Most importantly, I never stop improving myself.

Besides having a strong academic performance to increase my competitiveness to transfer to a UC, I wish I had known the following personal qualities: leadership, motivation, originality, independence, and maturity.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

I divert myself with billiards during my free time. I was fascinated by the angle at which the cue ball rebounds off the target ball.

I am a graduate from Skyline Middle College which I attended during my senior year of high school. I soon began to love the college environment and the fact that Skyline had many awesome opportunities and supportful staff. Self-reliance and taking initiative is important in order to be a successful college student. After leaving high school and transitioning into college, I want to learn how to burst out of my personal bubble and take full responsibility for my education.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

I like to obsess over reruns of “The Office,” superhero movies, and my dog (because she’s the greatest)! I love being out and about with friends. Did I also forget to mention that I’m a complete gym enthusiast?!
