Major:Criminal Justice

About me:

I am a first-generation college student that has recently graduated from Skyline College. I will be attending San Francisco State University this fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. I currently volunteer for a non-profit Organization affiliated with the Juvenile Detention Center as a mentor for teenage girls.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known…:

The right people to speak to in order to help me succeed my first years. I wish I was familiar with all of the valuable resources that a lot of student don’t take advantage of such as Peer Mentoring, Learning Communities, and tutoring!

What I enjoy outside of academics:

I love spending time with my family and hanging out with friends. I also love my “me time” with a great book and a good facial mask.

Khaoula Aissaoui

Major:Psychology & Early Childhood Education

About me:

I am originally from Algeria. I came to America in the summer of 2015. I speak Arabic and French. I attended an adult school for eight months, and then I enrolled in Skyline College. I am currently working towards an Associate Degree in two majors, Psychology and Early Childhood Education. My goal is to transfer to UC Berkeley, and become a professional social worker and an author!

Someone to talk too! I just wanted to talk with someone who knows Skyline. It would have supported me to succeed in my academic journey.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

I like designing words from several languages in handwriting. I also like free drawing because it allows me to express myself in a fun way.

I moved to the Bay Area last year from a small town outside of Tahoe. I am on the wrestling team and an officer in the Honors Transfer Club. I hope to transfer to a 4-year university.

The vast resources Skyline has to offer. SI Sessions helped me understand textbook readings and discuss key course concepts - getting connected with Career center to help me design my resume. Skyline has many resources available that can help you achieve your goals.

About me:

I was born and raised in Ghana. Studying abroad had always been my desire, after graduating high school, I started my search for a college that is student-centered and provides its students with the necessary support they need to succeed. Skyline College was the only institution that had these qualities I was looking for in a college. Here at Skyline, I plan on getting an associate in allied health and hopefully transferring to nursing school.

About me:

I am from Cape Town, South Africa. I have received three scholarships. My plan is to earn an Associate’s degree in Psychology with the intent to transfer. I love working with people and hope to become an entrepreneur! I take education and my future very seriously, and I am always open to helping anybody wherever and whenever I can. Studying in the U.S is something I have always known that I would do because I am ambitious and never back down from challenges!

About the free shuttle that is available to students! Transportation costs a lot of money. Also knowing about the Learning Communities and clubs on campus because it can be hard to socialize as a new student. When you find other people with similar interests and hobbies – it becomes easier.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

Having my private space and time to: relax and listen to music, write or read, catch up on what is happening in the world, and of course, social media

About me:

I grew up in Indonesia where I completed my high school. I came to the United States and chose Skyline College to pursue my higher education before transferring to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Afterwards, I intend to get a CPA license to work in the accounting industry or continue for master’s degree to become a college professor.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known…:

I wish I had known about the resources Skyline offers, and where to ask for help. I also wish that I spent more time to discover the campus after classes and be more engaged around campus.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

Besides academics, I love to spend time learning contemporary dance, editing movie projects or creating flyers. During holidays, I travel to other countries for sightseeing and to taste their cuisine.

Major:Sociology

About me:

I am a Mexican American, first generation student with the goal of transferring into a University of California within the next two years. My education took place in two very different cultural environments; Mexico and the U.S. I am nineteen years old and just recently graduated from Jefferson High School in Daly City. I love to work helping others achieve their goals and discover their hidden potential.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known…:

The many resources available to students to help students succeed. It took me some time to discover them, but Skyline College is a well prepared community college that has resources to fulfill all kinds of student needs. I wish I had been aware of the different kinds of help open to almost all students; covering necessities all the way from school supplies to best preparing to transfer.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

What I enjoy outside of academics: What I love to do most is read and write; I read across genres but like to focus my writing on fictional prose writing, specifically science fiction and action (I cannot write a poem to save my life). I also really enjoy swimming, both competitive and recreational swimming.

I dreamed of studying broad when I was a little girl, so I tried my best to convince my family to let me follow my dream. Since I came to the U.S. and studied at Skyline College, I’ve never stopped trying my best every single day to develop my skills and knowledge. I believe that if I keep moving forward and don’t give up, my hard work will be paid off.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known about all the available resources and services on campus, so that I don’t need to struggle to fit in the college life. I wish I had known more people, made more friends to not feel being left out of the community.

What I enjoy outside of academics:

I enjoy planning and attending the activities in Phi Theta Kappa, and then I also enjoy spending time with my friends when I’m free. Sometimes I will enjoy being alone to just listen to music or read some books to refresh my mind.

About me:

I was born and raised in Daly City. After high school, I attended San Jose State University majoring in computer engineering. I later transferred to Skyline hoping to stay close to family. Taking courses at Skyline, I realized computer engineering was not what I really wanted to do, so I took basic courses and eventually landed on an introductory course to accounting, which allowed me to know what I really enjoy.

When I started at Skyline College, I wish I had known…:

All the useful resources that are available to students. Knowing the available resources will make students experience at Skyline College a great and successful one.
