Together We Thrive (TWT): Skyline Gives Back

Saturday, August 2, 2014 @ Skyline College Dining Hall

The students at Skyline College are hosting the first annual Together We Thrive! (TWT) event by inviting the families in the community to come to campus for an exchange of needed goods. Skyline College is in one of the richest counties in the Bay Area but approximately 60% of our county is living below standard means.  Skyline College students want to help relieve some of the financial burden of returning to school. There are many students transferring and graduating every year and most of us have closets full of great clothes we will not be able to take with us. This as an opportunity for the Skyline College students to give back to the community we live in by donating gently used clothing, shoes, backpacks, and even school supplies! In addition, we are reaching out to the community and securing donations suitable for young children.

The mission statement at Skyline College is “To empower and transform a global community of learners.” We, as students want to advocate and further promote a continued contribution from Skyline students to the community. We want to be leaders and help our community come together.

TWT will not only help the community but Skyline College as well by encouraging all clubs to come together for this worthy cause. We acknowledge that every part of Skyline has something to offer. Healthy cooking demos will be available for easy weeknight dinners, healthy school lunches, and after-school snacks taught by some of our best Food and Nutrition majors. Our karate club and dance clubs would make another wonderful addition with all the knowledge they contain in their areas while the science clubs will offer fun hands-on lab experiments. We hope all clubs and student associations will be motivated to participate.

This event not only benefits the families in our community but will leave an impression of what it is like to be part of our Skyline family and hopefully encourages them to come back when it is time to further their education.

We thank you for supporting our efforts to give back to our community!
