News from the Skyline College Curriculum Committee

September 2010

New discipline added:

This month the committee approved the addition of the Drama discipline to the Social Science/Creative Arts/Library Division. In the late 1970’s Drama at Skyline College and Cañada College was consolidated to be offered at Cañada. Since then some exciting technical additions and modernization to the theater has enabled Skyline College to cultivate a demand for the technical production aspect of Drama. This new addition not only complements the program offered at our sister college, but also gives students the opportunity to study the technical production/stagecraft aspect of the industry. The new Technical Production/Stagecraft course is to be offered experimentally in Spring 2011. The new discipline addition follows the facilities plan/workplan and will assist the College in its continued goal to be a cultural center for North County.

New online Physical Education Activity course makes AA/AS degree requirements fully accessible online:

A new Interactive Cardiovascular Training online course will be offered in Spring 2011. Student performance of self-reported cardiovascular exercise will be verified using the technology of a device that is commonly attached or embedded in the shoe. A sensor in the device measures the pace and distance of walking or running. As the device is connected with an internet site, students are able to store additional information such as distance, time, pace, calories burned and goal attainment. An IPOD Nano and Nike + IPOD Sport Kit or Nike + Sportband are required for the course. With the addition of this online course, students have the option to complete Skyline College’s AA/AS degree requirements fully online.
