Prospective International Students

Applicants are required to submit original documents in English or certified English translations that demonstrate satisfaction of the following requirements:

  1. Complete the International Student Application. Download to view or print the application in PDF format.
  2. Submit a Personal Essay (Instructions on page 7 of the application)
  3. Provide proof of completion of the equivalent of a United States high school education with satisfactory grade point average of 2.0 or above. Original secondary school transcripts are required. Original certified translations are also accepted.
  4. Submit Original College Transcript - certified translations
  5. Submit Original Financial Data Form and Bank Verification of Funds. All bank documents must be current, written in English, include amount in U.S. Dollars and must include signature of Bank Official.
  6. Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Score Report - Original copy. A minimum score of 480 (paper-based) 157 (computer-based) or 54 (internet-based) is required.

  For Applicants attending U.S. schools please attach the following:

  1. Copies of Visa page from Passport, I-94, Passport BioPage, and copies of all I-20's.
  2. Certificate of Eligibility to Transfer - Completed by the student and current institution. (These forms are available online under Prospective Student page)

Students who are accepted into the program will be issued a Certificate of Eligibility (INS Form I-20) after a tuition deposit of $500.00 has been received. Each semester, international students must also pay the Enrollment Fee, Student Representation Fee, Health Insurance Premium, Student Body Fee, Student Union Fee and Health Services Fee when registering.

International Students must demonstrate the ability to meet college expenses including the payment of nonresident tuition in the amount of $200.00 per unit and the California Enrollment Fee of $20.00 per unit. Total cost is $220.00 per unit. All fees are subject to change.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students at Skyline College must comply with requirements of the San Mateo County Community College District and the United States Immigration Customs Enforcement (USICE), which is a branch of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

  • Be enrolled in, and complete, no less than 12.0 units each semester.
  • Pay each semester's full tuition cost at the time of registration.
  • Purchase a mandatory health insurance and accident policy available through the College District before registration will be permitted. Please see International Student Insurance Enrollment Form. Alternative private health insurance policies must be approved each semester. An alternative health insurance form must be completed and signed each semester . When submitting your alternative health insurance form you must attach a copy of both sides of your insurance I.D. card. Please see Health Insurance Waiver Form.
  • Acquaint themselves with the policy pertaining to tuition refunds. A written description of this policy is available in the Schedule of Classes and the College Catalog.
  • Follow the direction of the International Student Advisor in making any and all plans for course work taken at the college. This includes any course work that the student may wish to take at other institutions within the district. Consultation with the International Student Advisor is required when selecting each semester's courses.
  • Keep the advisor and the Admissions and Records Office informed of any important changes that may affect their academic status or status with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
  • Not seek employment outside the college. On- campus employment may be available with permission from the International Student Advisor. Please see the International Student Advisor for the federal regulations regarding employment.
  • Make arrangements for housing. The college provides no housing, but can refer you to an outside private agency should you need to seek permanent or part-time housing. Please see International Student Placements and San Francisco Homestay Program .
