Distance Education Advisory Committee
Our Charge
The Distance Education Advisory Committee (DEAC) at Skyline College works to advance the College’s mission to empower and transform a global community of learners. DEAC supports high-quality, equitable, and humanizing online education by recommending faculty resources and advising on policy, planning, and technology.
Responsibilities
- Communicate clear, accurate, and timely information to faculty and the wider college community about online learning opportunities, resources, and support services, while providing consistent updates on the implementation and funding of certification training.
- Strengthen collaboration and synergy between the District Distance Education Advisory Committee (DEAC), the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (CTTL), and the Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) to build a cohesive infrastructure for high-quality online learning, while advancing the expansion of fully online degrees and certificates that position Skyline College as a leader in the California Community College system.
- Promote dialogue, inquiry, and continuous improvement around student success, completion, retention, and satisfaction in online courses, with particular attention to eliminating equity gaps.
- Support the College’s antiracist, equity-centered mission by encouraging pedagogical and technological practices that remove barriers, increase access, and affirm the lived experiences of our diverse students.
- Foster a thriving learning and work environment by advocating for sustainable, user-centered technologies and practices that enhance teaching, learning, and overall campus well-being.
