The Skyline College Learning Commons brings together the functions of the Library and The Learning Center into a unified, technology enhanced academic support space for students in Building 5.

The Learning Commons (LC) is a flexible learning environment providing academic support for students in all Skyline College courses through workshops, instructional technology, tutoring, lab-based courses, databases, journal and magazine subscriptions, as well as traditional book collections. Through a wide area network, students have access to the Internet, the Peninsula Library System (PLS) online catalog, and periodical and research databases, including eBook and streaming video collections, all of which may be accessed remotely. The goal of the LC is to offer students opportunities to learn more quickly and effectively and with greater confidence.

Accordingly, the LC provides alternative means of instruction that address students’ diverse learning preferences and styles. The LC offers a comprehensive program of individual and small group support for all levels of English, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), reading and math, and provides tutoring in a variety of academic subject areas. The Learning Commons includes the following: Writing/Reading tutorial lab, Math tutorial lab, ESOL tutorial lab, Science/Social Science/Business tutorial lab, embedded tutoring, online tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Peer Mentoring, academic skills workshops, computer lab, and group and individual study spaces.
